Loved and lost
Steve waking up in a hospital after the events of CAWS and talks with Sam how Bucky saved his life. He refuses to believe Bucky is lost to winter soldier. Sam gives Steve his loyalty and undivided support to bring Bucky back. They start forming a emotional bond as Steve moves to Sam's place after his place was trashed so he can recover and plan to find bucky
Steve groaned softly, feeling sore all over from the fight. His eyes fluttered open, and for a moment, everything seemed blurry before coming into focus. He glanced around the room, taking in the white walls, hospital sheets, and tubes attached to his body – confirming that he had indeed been brought here after being injured during CAWS. Slowly sitting up, he winced at the pain radiating from his side; despite the medication they had given him, it still throbbed with each movement.
"Hey," Sam's voice broke through Steve's thoughts, "How are you feeling?"
Steve turned towards the door as Sam walked, holding a mug of steaming tea which he handed over.
"Just banged up," replied Steve, taking a sip of the warm liquid. He grimaced slightly at the taste – not used to drinking anything other than coffee – but appreciated the effort nonetheless.
Sam smiled gently and took a seat on the edge of the bed, reaching out to take one of Steve’s hands in his own. “I know how difficult this must be for you,” he said softly.
“You have no idea.” For years now, Steve had been searching for Bucky - trying desperately to find him before it was too late. Even though he knew that he risked pushing their friendship to its limit by digging up old wounds, Steve couldn't stop himself from doing everything in his power to bring back the man he cared about so deeply. And yet here they were again – at another crossro all hope seemed lost and there was nothing left but uncertainty ahead of them.
Steve looked down at Sam’s hand clasping his own tightly and squeezed gently in return. The bond between them had grown stronger over time; despite being complete strangers previously, Steve and Sam now shared an unbreakable brotherhood forged through hardship, sacrifice. It was because of this that Steve knew that regardless of what happened next - whether Bucky returned or not - Sam would stand by him every step of the way."I'm sorry,” he said simply, “I don't know how to handle all of this. I feel like it's my fault…"
Sam shook his head softly. "It’s not your fault," he replied firmly. "Bucky is a complicated person with a dark past, and sometimes even we can't fully understand everything he goes through." He paused for a moment before continuing, "But I believe in you – in both of you – and I know that together we will bring back the man Bucky once was.” Steve nodded, feeling reassured by Sam's words.
After receiving clearance from the doctors, Steve decided to move out of his ruined apartment into Sam’s tiny house in Brooklyn where they could focus on finding Bucky without interruption or distraction. It wasn't easy, however; despite their best efforts, they continued to hit dead ends every step of the way. Despite everything though, Steve refused to give up hope – even when it seemed like all he had left were broken memories and shattered dreams.
But as time passed, so too did the bond between them strengthen further still, forging not only a brotherhood but also something more…a love that would transcend any obstacle thrown in their path.
Bucky after saving Steve who was supposed to be his mission is confused and drained. Saving Steve opened flood gate of opportunity for his brain to get memories back. Bucky started getting broken pieces of memories that said Steve was really important but the brain washed winter soldier often takes over like split personality. He decides to keep eye on Steve and finds him at Sam's place, as he follows them trying to understand his memories he sees how Steve depends on Sam and a unexpectedly stab of jealousy Bucky couldn't explain started to course through his mind.
As Bucky watched from afar – hidden in the shadows their interactions – it felt like a dream come true…to have someone care about him so deeply again after being lost for so long. But deep down inside an underlying feeling of unease began to grow, something that wouldn’t go away no matter what he did or said; a twinge of jealousy that had taken hold despite everything he knew didn’t make sense. Why should Steve be with Sam and not me? He thought bitterly. It was as though a part of himself – buried far beneath layers of conditioning and trauma – was trying to break through and reach out towards the light once more…trying desperately to reclaim his identity before it slipped completely away forever more.
As Bucky followed them from place to place over the next few days – watching as they searched for any clue, any piece of information that could lead them towards their shared past – he began to feel like something inside him was changing; a shift in perspective that he couldn’d quite put into words but still felt tangible nonetheless. And yet despite everything - every time he caught a glimpse of Steve with Sam – arms wrapped around each other, shoulders bumped against one another in laughter he found himself feeling a sense of longing and loss he had never experienced before
Despite this though, Bucky continued on his quest to find the truth about who he really was…even if it meant sacrificing those feelings for something greater – something worth fighting for. But as he delved deeper into the world of memory and secrets, he began to realize that sometimes what we lose can come back to us again; even when it seems like all hope is gone, there's always somebody out there waiting with open arms to welcome us home...with love and acceptance no matter what.
Bucky breaks into Steve's room one night and asks him about their past, who he is Bucky or winter soldier and if the Steve that loved Bucky is still the same Steve or his heart belongs to someone else.
As Bucky broke down in a torrent of emotion-filled words – each syllable tumbling over the other as though unable to contain themselves any longer - it was clear that everything inside him had finally come to the surface; years’ worth of hurt and anger spilling out like a dam bursting apart from the weight of its own pressure. And yet despite all this pain and confusion, there was something raw and vulnerable underneath it all; a sense that even after everything been through together – including countless attempts at rescue missions with Steve risking his life every time – he still needed reassurance that the Steve who loved Bucky so deeply was truly still in there somewhere.
Steve remained silent for what felt like an eternity asions warred within himself – wanting desperately to be open and honest about Sam while another part fearful of causing hurt or disappointment in their once-close friendship. But when Bucky finally looked up, tears streaming down his face...something inside snapped…because no matter how difficult it might have been to accept everything that had happened over the years, Steve knew deep down that he didn’t want to lose this moment; he couldn't bear to watch his only friend – possibly his one true love – slip away from him forever more without trying for real connection and understanding between them again.
So with a quivering voice filled with uncertainty as well as determination, he spoke words that would change their lives forever: "Bucky…I don’t know who I am anymore," he whispered slowly, eyes flickering with pain before meeting Bucky’s own once again, "but I still feel something for you…something deep inside me - even if it doesn't make any sense after everything we've been through." He took a shaky breath to compose himself before continuing, “But Sam is a part of my life now – someone i cherish deeply and love unconditionally. And yet...I can’t forget what we had all those years ago either…it feels like there are so many pieces to myself that have been broken apart over time but maybe - just maybe – they could be pieced back together somehow..."
Bucky listened intently as Steve struggled to find the words to express his inner turmoil and confusion; feeling grateful for this moment despite it being incredibly difficult in the midst of everything else going on around them. "Thank you," he finally whispered as though unable to speak any louder, before turning away to take a shaky breath. Despite everything though, both knew deep down inside that their friendship was worth fighting for...that if nothing else…they owed it to themselves to try one last time to reclaim what had been lost so long ago.
